As of March 2, 2017, it operated 220 stores in 19 states of the United States. The company was founded in 1955 and is headquartered in Carmel, Indiana. On March 6, 2017, hhgregg, Inc., along with its affiliates, filed a voluntary petition for reorganization under Chapter 11 in the US Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of Indiana.
