The investment seeks to maximize total return consistent with current income. The fund invests primarily in U.S. and foreign debt securities, including those in emerging markets. Debt securities include all types of fixed and floating rate securities including high yield securities (junk bonds), investment grade corporate bonds, U.S. Treasury, agency, and municipal securities, and foreign government securities, including inflation-indexed securities of U.S. and non-U.S. governments, convertible securities, preferred securities, and mortgage-backed and asset-backed securities.

The Fund will invest at least 90% of its total assets in common stocks that comprise the Index. Standard & Poor's compiles, maintains and calculates the Index, which is composed of 50 securities traded on the S&P 500 Index that historically have provided high dividend yields and low volatility. The Fund and the Index are rebalanced and reconstituted semi-annually, in January and July.
