The investment seeks capital appreciation. Under normal circumstances, the fund invests most of its net assets in shares of equity mutual funds and ETFs managed by the Investment Manager or its affiliates (Columbia Funds), and third party advised funds (collectively, underlying funds). Normally, it invests at least 80% of its net assets in equity securities. For purposes of the fund's 80% policy, equity securities include common stocks, preferred stocks, securities convertible into common stocks, ADRs and GDRs and shares of underlying funds that principally invest in such securities.

The Fund will invest at least 90% of its total assets in common stocks that comprise the Index. Standard & Poor's compiles, maintains and calculates the Index, which is composed of 50 securities traded on the S&P 500 Index that historically have provided high dividend yields and low volatility. The Fund and the Index are rebalanced and reconstituted semi-annually, in January and July.
