The fund invests primarily in long-term investment-grade securities issued by the state of California, its political subdivisions, instrumentalities, and by other government entities, the interest on which is excludable from gross income for federal income tax and California state income tax purposes. During normal market conditions, at least 80% of the fund's net assets will consist of California tax-exempt securities. Its dollar-weighted average portfolio maturity is not restricted, but is expected to be greater than 10 years.

The Fund will invest at least 90% of its total assets in common stocks that comprise the Index. Standard & Poor's compiles, maintains and calculates the Index, which is composed of 50 securities traded on the S&P 500 Index that historically have provided high dividend yields and low volatility. The Fund and the Index are rebalanced and reconstituted semi-annually, in January and July.
