The companyβs operations are organized into three main segments: Insurance and Reinsurance, Run-off, and Non-Insurance Companies. Its insurance portfolio provides protection against property damage stemming from various perils, including fire, explosions, earthquakes, windstorms, floods, boiler malfunctions, machinery breakdowns, and construction flaws. Furthermore, Fairfax underwrites policies for automobiles, commercial and personal properties, and agricultural crops. The firm also extends coverage for workers' compensation, employer's liability, accident and health, medical malpractice, professional liability, and comprehensive umbrella policies. Additionally, its specialized insurance and reinsurance products encompass marine, aerospace, surety bonds, and other categories of risks and liabilities. Beyond its core financial services, Fairfax Financial Holdings diversifies its activities through various non-insurance ventures. These include retailing a range of products such as home improvement items, toys and baby essentials, golf equipment, sports apparel and accessories, housewares and home dΓ©cor, and tableware and gifts. The company also invests in other retail businesses and manages holiday resort properties. Its broader services portfolio features integrated travel and associated financial solutions; the sourcing, processing, and distribution of pulses and staple foods; the creation, production, and dissemination of entertainment content; and the provision of pet medical insurance and database services, as well as media and marketing strategies. Originally incorporated in 1951 as Markel Financial Holdings Limited, the company adopted its current name, Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited, in 1987. Its corporate headquarters are located in Toronto, Canada.
