Live data · updated October 22, 202678 stocks, REITs, BDCs and income funds yielding 5–20% on their current dividend, grouped by type, with the latest payout and a free DRIP calculator for each. Median yield: 8.0%. High yield means high expectations — read the yield-trap checklist before you buy.
At the median yield of 8.0%, $100,000 pays about $8,023 a year before taxes, and $1,000 a month takes about $149,570. Whether that income grows depends on the dividend — model it with conservative assumptions.
Open the DRIP calculator →There is no official cutoff, but yields above about 4–5% are usually called high — roughly two to four times the S&P 500 average. This page lists securities yielding 5% or more on their current forward dividend, and separates yields of 20%+ that are rarely sustainable.
Among regular stocks and midstream partnerships in the table, the highest current yields are STRC (11.5%), CAG (8.3%), WES (8.3%). REITs, BDCs and income funds are listed separately because their payouts work differently.
A yield trap is a stock whose yield looks high only because its price has fallen on bad news — and the dividend is then cut, so you lose income and capital. Warning signs: a payout ratio above 100% of earnings or free cash flow, rising debt, falling revenue, a yield far above peers, and a history of cuts.
Look at the payout ratio (dividends ÷ earnings or free cash flow), the balance sheet, the dividend history and whether the business is growing. Each DRIP calculator on DividendFlow shows the payout history, the Strand Safety Score (free-cash-flow coverage, debt and earnings) and the yield over time.
BDCs must pay out most of their taxable income and lend at high interest rates, so their yields are naturally high. Covered-call ETFs such as QYLD, JEPQ or SPYI sell call options and distribute the premium; they pay a lot but give up much of the upside when stocks rally, and their distributions change every month.
In the table, PDI, DX, PFLT, KBWD, AGNC pay monthly. See the full list of monthly dividend stocks for more.
